要旨:
Activation of soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC) by the ubiquitous biological messenger molecule nitric oxide (NO) and generation of the intracellular second messenger cyclic guanosine-3’,5’-monophosphate (cGMP) plays a critical role in maintaining cardiac and vascular homeostasis, and preventing cardiovascular disease (CVD). It has recently become apparent that redox modulation plays a pivotal function in governing the activity of NO/sGC/cGMP signalling. This concept fits nicely with current understanding of the contribution of oxidative (and electrophilic) stress to CVD and the protective function(s) of NO and cGMP. Moreover, this paradigm has led to the development of novel therapeutics that target NO/sGC/cGMP signal transduction.
